Career Services eCourse

Course Overview:

This course explores the fundamental question: What is college for? By examining historical, social, and personal perspectives on higher education, learners will gain a deeper understanding of the role college plays in shaping individuals and society. Through engaging multimedia content, reflective exercises, and critical discussions, participants will investigate how college fosters intellectual growth, career opportunities, civic engagement, and personal transformation.

This course serves as an asynchronous module that is part of the Life and Career Integration curriculum at UT Austin. By the end of the course, learners will have a clearer perspective on their own educational journey and how they can make the most of their college experience. This course is ideal for students, educators, and anyone interested in rethinking the purpose of higher education in today’s world.

My main priorities for this course design were:

Below are select elements of the overall course. Some content remains proprietary and cannot be shared.

Challenge:

This eCourse expands on a three-part instructor-led training (ILT) series I developed for Life and Career Integration, a university-wide career services initiative. This initiative fosters a campus culture where every student embraces life design principles to confidently explore possibilities, identify purpose, and create meaningful pathways to personal and professional success. The key challenge is scaling and customizing the program to serve the entire university.

Solution:

To address this, the music department requested an asynchronous module to make the curriculum more accessible to all students, providing flexibility and continuity. Students can learn at their own pace, enabling them to stay engaged even with changing personal circumstances.
